To heck with the serious stuff. All I want to know is, what is (or was) your dog’s name, past or present?

Ours was … Freckles. (That’s Freckles on the right.) He was a great dog, a Springer Spaniel. He was a roamer, always with a big grin on his face. He liked to walk in the front door at Alexander IV and go to each of the classrooms where all the kids knew him by name.

And yours?

P.S. You’re welcome to share a little of your dog story, too.

UPDATE: Patrick Goff shared this image which he says comes from macon.com under a section where they asked the public to post pictures of their pets. Patrick says, “Either this woman has photoshop or she is feeding her dog HGH.”

Esteemed creative one AnchorMan: I bet my dog, Boo-Diggy-Dee, may be found some place as I obsessively speak (lovely pun) of the ol guy all the time. My child shared a neighborhood dog, Lucky, and he was a wonderful, crazy man!!! Boo-Diggy-Dee has many more names, as did Lucky who was also called Uccles. These spaniels were in the havoc-wrought-ing business. One is up in dog heaven, buried in my back yard. the other, Mr. Diggy Dee, just got in trouble again for chewing a sponge.

I had a greyhound named Princess Leah (as in Star Wars). She was human. When she died 20 years ago, I thought, “No more dogs for me”.
And then there was this dog that sat for 2 days on an ant bed down the street. When it became obvious nobody was going to claim her, we did.
She’s a mixed breed who at 8 months already weighs 73 pounds. Her name is Shree Devi Dog….think Goddess. BIG Goddess!

So Freckles is in heaven with Princess? Or is
(s)he still enjoying a chewy in your front yard?

My very first dog was a Heinz 57 blend named Bingo. Bingo loved to chase cars until he got caught by one and died leaving a very broken hearted 4 year old.
Then after my little brother came along we had a full blooded Collie named Lassie. She was so protective of my brother and me that if my brother tried to ride on the back fender of my bike, she would grab him by the seat of the pants and pull him off the bike.

I though my “dog days” were over back in 1980. The kids were grown, we moved to Florida. No more dogs. Wrong!

In 2005 Hurricane Charlie took my daughter’s home leaving her with a child, a dog, a puppy and 3 cats. “Mom, could you take Foxy?”

What was a Mother to do? There was absolutely no answer other than “yes.”

I didn’t know if she chewed, wet on the carpet or what. It didn’t matter, my child was in distress.

Foxy became a member of a Social Security Family. She didn’t tear up the house, she went outside where she should. She slept on a big dog bed in our bedroom.

3 months later, when our daughter called, I told her we had a problem. She asked if the dog was sick. I told her no, but that her Father had fallen in love with Foxy. She said she would have to discuss this with our granddaughter. I told her I completely understood.

Three days later she called back and said, “Mom, we’ve talked it over and decided that every boy should have a dog.”

What love and joy she has brought us. And, oh yes, our daughter got back into her home ONLY 2 years later.

Sadie Mae (sometimes known as Sadie Mae the Wonder Dog). She’s a mutt, mom was a cocker spaniel, dad supposedly a rat terrier, but she looks like she has dachsund with the color of a rottweiler. Yeah, she’s a mixed up kid. We got her when she was six weeks old six years ago, and we tell everyone she’s the baby we couldn’t have! She absolutely loves to ride in the car, and we have to spell the word r-i-d-e because if we say it she knows what we’re talking about. She always gets a treat after going outside to potty, and many times if my husband lets her in and gives her a treat, she will come look at me like, “Hey! He forgot my treat!” so I’ll make a big deal out of it. “Did daddy forget to give you a treat?” He vehemently denies the accusations, and she walks away with another treat and a smug look. Her weirdest thing is hating the vacuum cleaner. I thought maybe it was the noise that bothered her, but it’s not that. It’s the wheels! She comes tearing through the house barking if anything on wheels is rolled on the floor.

When I was a kid, we had two collies named Dobie and Maynard. Alas, Dobie had to be put down because we lived out in the country around a bunch of farms and he developed a taste for chicken!

Other dogs: Nicky, Cleo, Raki, and Ozzie.

Current dog — a rescued greyhound named Truly.

A sweetheart of a dog named “Lady”. She had loads of cocker in her and probably something else but I tell you - - she lived up to that name. Kind, gentle, loving, precious, loyal - all the good things a dog should be. Followed my children around everywhere (back in days of no leash law), had to be let into house at night when it started to thunder so she could sleep in the basement, played with family cat constantly (they were good friends), would be at the lake with us and if we got into boat and left her on dock - off she’d sail into the water swimming out to us, loved to go to beach at St. Simons & swim with us in the ocean.
One wonderful tale after another could be told about Lady.
My heart most broke when she passed away and many tears were shed.
If I could find my picture of her, I’d post it here to honor her. She was the best.
(Have I told you about our family pet possum - “Symore”? - he was interesting to say the least.)

My father bought a German Sheppard when I was 12, and we named him Ranger. He was stolen from our back yard here in Macon after only a few months, and I’ve never had another dog since. I will never forget the anger and frustration in my father.

Who would want to have a dog in Bibbiotville?
The Macon Mall Food Court Fight Thugs would probably steal my dog this time around.

Just last month we had to put our dog Copper to sleep. She was a cocker spaniel mix that looked sort of like Benji the movie dog. She was 13, and we got her when she was 6 weeks. Which is -by far- the longest we have ever had a pet. She was very smart and knew many words. We are still missing her terribly.

My baby was Gretchy…looked like a chow, not sure what else. Found her down at the river trail 3 yrs ago. She was darned skinny, had heartworms, not much to look at–but became the most precious, grateful, lovely dog in the world. She died about 2 months ago with her Georgia jersey on. I only lasted 3 days before I got my new dog on petfinder.com.
