McCain on Obama on Iraq

July 22nd, 2008 · 11 Comments

From time to time I’m going to offer for your comment a video that one of the presidential campaigns has produced.  We’ll start with the McCain campaign’s attack on what it claims are Obama’s ever shifting convenient views on the war in Iraq.  (I wish it was a little shorter but it’s an important subject.)

So grab a jawbreaker, sit back and take it all in.

Next time: Obama on McCain.

Who is that guy? What did he say? What time is it? What planet am I on? Where did he go? Is it true he buys his suits at Nordstrom, and that is great as it saves taxpayers money? Why does he need cue cards to speak? How old is he, anyway? What branch of the service did he serve in? What is his experience with international affairs? I am so confused now. But in Europe, they are having Obamamania….Oh, well. I’ve seen the Euroweenies kookoo before. They taught the world to say “I’m on the dole.”

Obama is a polished, intelligent and likable politician who is very, very inexperienced in matters of economics and world affairs.

He is in way over his head. The man is simply not qualified to be our next POTUS. It’s that simple.

But I wish to add that the personal attacks against him must stop………..he should only be challenged on the issues.

Cue cards used in speeches is a huge problem, as much as the lack of understanding of our military. The video Anchor posted is critical. He has no concept of the function of the military. It is greatly worrisome that of all the people in the Senate he is one of the lesser informed about our nation’s security and wants to lead people regarding this criticial issue, at a most critical time. If there are threats to American soil and lives, there has to be someone in that job that understands the function of the military. That is not an “on the job” training sort of situation. That has to come with years of first hand work in that area.

Obama is a poor off the cuff speaker, has little experience, and is an extreme leftist. He was badly wrong on Iraq, including the surge. He is also black, which many voters will hold against him, even after telling poll takers the opposite.

    McCain will win easily.

I don’t want my first post to stand alone. Barack Obama is a ridiculously accomplished person. He would be great in many positions if someone older and wiser were the main guy and he were part of a team . But he is also extremely young. Maybe in another century, his age would not be a factor. Now that many people live to be over 90 years old, he is just barely over half that. Whatever his life experiences, (all requiring a variety of complex skills), they are not enough yet. He is just way too young. If I have any prejudice against him in any form, I just tend to think of him as a kid. I don’t want a kid running the show. He is really young. I am much older and I think of myself as young, (yes, it is a stretch!)

Glad, you say Obama is “ridiculously accomplished.” Please name three of his accomplishments.

By the way, being a pompous politician is not an accomplishment. Obama doesn’t even know what committees he is on based on news reports.

‘Gus, just from the demographics of our region, I am gonna take a big-arse leap and say the following about the two of us only:……………….Neither of us could1. Get into Columbia University, an Ivy school, and get some scholarship money to do it. They would not give me any extra coin and I was at UGA…(well, a got a penny or two) 2. Neither one of us could get into Harvard Law. Don’t know about you, but I know what that test is like. I know some folks who did it. They kick my brain’s butt around the block and back, academically. And three (there are more) I don’t think either of us could make it through Harvard Law with a degree and then win the race as Senator from the great state of Illinois. I know that my situation would have to have changed drastically about 1970 for any of that to have ever occurred for me.

Oops, after Ima cringes at the horror of the past few of my passages here, I can explain. I was only in Athens back in the days when my Cocker Spaniel would be admitted with ease. Long, long ago. Don’t get the impression that I matriculated at what is now almost a competitive school.

Obama reflects the self centered, myopic, idealistic attitudes of his age, and his impressive academic accomplishments may hold him in good stead, but only in the United States. He embodies what we collectively uphold to be worthwhile, obtainable goals.

Now, look at the world’s leaders of today. What qualities to they possess that we, as Americans, admire?

Our cultures are too varied. When thrown into the arena with them, Obama will be eaten alive, and so will the United States. They know this and are salivating in anticipation of his election.

No, we need someone who reflects our ideals, but who has seen evil for what it really is. Someone who has spit in its face and come out on top.

Experience is important to me. I am voting for McCain.

I fail to see even one accomplishment, Glad. Obama was an affirmative action pick at those schools and got a free ride on full scholarships. His commercial about “working his way” through school is a lie. Getting backed by the political machine in Chicago is no accomplishment either. He has never had an important bill passed, he never had an important case as an attorney. He has never managed anything.

Obama is an empty suit, to steal a great line from someone.

‘Gus and Ima, one of my favorite things to do in life is be your straight man. From your keyboards to God’s ears. John McCain has essentially no competition. But I am old school, like Ima. I am shocked and often bewildered by the new generation. Did they elect SlickWillie Clinton? Did he go on teenage television shows to prove his cool? Augustus, you and Ima have illustrated exactly what I believe will potentially be the salvation of the United States of America. Now let me go drink this coffee and think up another way to get you two goin!
