I attended Bragg Jam last year, but, while I really did enjoy the music and the fun, I must admit…I felt out of beat.
Concerts I remember coming to Macon, spanning the years:
Billy Joel
Wet Willie
Doobie Brothers
Marshall Tucker
Charlie Daniel
Beach Boys
Gladys Knight and the Pips
Little Richard
Who am I forgetting?

The best in the history of Macon was Leon Redbone. That guy can work a crowd. Mostly just him, very little accompaniment. At the Grand Opera House. My office sent me on business, and after we got to go back stage and meet him, a huge group from work. They put a dozen red roses in his dressing room and he gave them to me. Stain lifter, that’s All.

Or maybe BB King at the City Auditorium. Poorly miked, however, but a packed house. Hard to hear or see.

I’m showing my age but when The Lettermen came to the Grand they selected someone from random from the audience to come on stage and join them in a song. They made the mistake of choosing me. I got on stage, started singing that song like the fourth Letterman, took my coat off, swirled it over my head and threw it into the audience. It was showtime!

The Four Tops really rocked the City Auditorium about 20 years ago…………….the best Motown sound ever.

And we thought Anchor was shy and retiring. We are in shock.
7 citro // Jul 25, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Speak for yourself, Gladiator. As long as I’ve know him, this Anchor and shy have never met!
I can ’so totally’ see him hamming it up with the Lettermen!
8 Ima Thinkin // Jul 25, 2008 at 3:04 pm
see even Citro is think about ham! Time for a mid- afternoon snack!!!!
9 gladiator // Jul 25, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Anchor, they called you ham!!!! That ain’t Kosher. I cannot imagine our esteemed Grand Poobah of Satire strutting around in funny garb and entertaining the masses, can I???

My old boss used to say, “Just wait ’til I write my book.” I think this was a joke, but I think it is going to be necessary for me to write one. All the colorful cast here will be playing some exciting roles: themselves. However, the colorful part of my book will be my crazy family. The most colorful of all. BACK TO TOPIC: Bragg Jam is entirely too young for most of us on this blog. I will now list my own personal “Hagg Jam” so-named for my advancing years. Here’s the list of performing acts:
Les Paul
Herbie Hancock
Thelonius Monk
George Benson
Ella Fitzgerald
Elvis Costello
Sergio Mendes and Brazil ‘66
Al Green
James Brown
Dr. John (Mac Rebbenak)
Annie Lennox
John Williams, the Classical Guitarist
YoYo Ma
I guess that would keep me happy.

For me, sweet dreams are not made of Annie Lenox. But I’d borrow your ipod for the rest of your choices there, Gladiator.
..and Ima, it’s true I did say ‘ham’ but I’m a vegetarian. Sprouts and tofu work for me…and I have been know to hug a tree….

Hmm, citro, so I guess your and Anchor’s reference to “The Lettermen” wasn’t just a misspelling of David’s last name, either, was it?
“Embarrassing to miss the point all the way around!” Ima thought to herself.

I only like vintage Annie, nothing new. Maybe that is why she no longer has a recording contract. If Annie would revisit her good stuff from 1990 ish she would be better off.

Imagining that there is a point to our chatter gave me pause, Ima. Point? Never occurred to me to look for one with this crew! That’s the major appeal here - idle chatter and random loose associations. Hmmm, is that the name of a group?
Okay, this link will take you to the Lettermen’s official site.
Prepare for “white and nerdy” and ….OLD!

I see there being a revival of white, nerdy and dorky world-wide. Also, I want to see a return to music that the youthful ones might deem dorky as well. Hence, my list of geriatric master musicians.
I am almost certain Ima would recognize the Lettermen. Tradition. Love it. And the Stylistics. My parents played them non-stop and this song:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZewY8gApLsg&feature=related

lol! Exactly, citro!! What is the point here? Let’s “Go ask Alice” about this “Land of Confusion” entitled WMCCNews.
Alice:
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?”
ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND - Lewis Carol
Now, is everyone on a different page? Great!! Shall we continue? LOL!!
18 Citro // Jul 26, 2008 at 10:40 pm
Your parents played this? Why Gladiator, you must be just a babe. I mean that in a good way.
19 gladiator // Jul 27, 2008 at 8:57 am
My parents had me when they were both 12. You know the backwoods stories. Seriously, their musical tastes, especially for Motown-related tunes, was youthful. They were obsessed with the Carpenters and Bill Withers. Sometimes they got it right, sometimes hit and miss. They introduced me to every Broadway hit that ever was, but I found all the Gilbert and Sullivan myself.

Keeping with my protocol:
Alice in Wonderland was one of Disney’s animation masterpieces. Take a look at some of the images in this amazing little movie.

Ima, remember the tune, “Ball of confusion”? Check this out. It’s still relevant.
Love their suits!

Our family has been watching too much of the old Men in Black movies. Gender is for 20th century sissies. Give me mutant ambiguity any day. ….+++++++Ball of Confusion……they could dance, they could sing, the song was interesting, the song entertained me and had nice instrumentation. I want us all to return to this!!! I don’t mind if people choose to not be nerdy, but they need to learn their craft!
24 Cotton Avenue Solon // Jul 27, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Anchor……………..congratulations!!! Gladiator apparently liked the new name that you so graciously bestowed upon this most prolific of bloggers.
25 gladiolus // Jul 27, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Seems a bit less obnoxious than “Gladiator.” But I am considering a future change to “Batman” if I like it when I see it in IMAX!
